Susan Mudd, MS CNS : Nutritional Support

clinical practice:

My experience includes treatments for hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and gastrointestinal disorders, but have worked with many other conditions. I also offer a unique program for overcoming weight loss. Having 50+ food and supplement plans at my disposal, I prefer to improve a client's diet first by focusing on the removal of offending foods, and, as a next step, I add foods and/or nutrients back into the diet which will help heal the body. I also enjoy working in conjunction with a client's doctor, in an effort to create a holistic as well as safe approach to his or her healthcare.

I am board certified, independently insured, and am a member of the American College of Nutrition. I am also involved with continuing education through Designs for Health and Crayhon Research, two research-based nutrition companies. My practice in Maryland includes group, individual and child/adolescent weight loss counseling, speaking engagements around the DC area, and a monthly column in the Gaithersburg Gazette. I am also affiliated with Clayton College, an online Alternative Health college.

Corporate Consulting:

My corporate experience includes 8 years in promotional marketing for Kraft Foods. Before turning to nutrition full time, I also served as Vice President for Ryan Partnership, a top 10 promotion agency in Connecticut, where my clients included Unilever and Nabisco. Now I enjoy combining my nutrition expertise with my promotion experience to create successful promotional and sales plans.

Comprehensive Nutritional Assessment and Counseling

My goal is to provide each client with unprecedented care as they work toward achieving their nutritional and health goals. I believe that 90% of health conditions begin in the GI tract, and are a result of how many people have come to eat these days. When we do not eat a diet that is appropriate for us (and this varies by individual), then we do not absorb food correctly, we develop inflammatory conditions, and our immune system becomes challenged. By treating each client as a unique human being I can identify the best eating plan and the best health plan for them, from the inside out. While I do believe in the value of supplementation, I use them as a temporary means, until a client is healthy enough to absorb good food and all the accompanying nutrients.

I also believe that having a "roadmap" for good health is the right place to start with any individual, so I require a new blood chemistry test to be done before we begin working together (see blood chemistry analysis below). After a full health intake I will discuss other tests that I believe will be the most beneficial for you. These tests are optional, and include food sensitivities, Stress tests (salivary), GI stool tests and others.

Blood Chemistry Analysis

You're not sick, but are you healthy?

What happened the last time you went for a physical and got some blood work done? Most likely, you received a follow up call from the doctor's office, something to the effect of "Your blood test is back. You're fine." That's pretty much the explanation we get, on a test that can be such a powerful predictor of health - or a red flag for disease. Conversely, have you ever had the experience of having someone really explain something like a test result to you, so that you feel completely empowered and motivated to make positive changes? It's a great, satisfying feeling.

I offer a service called Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis. And, unlike most doctors who might use your blood test results to see if you are sick, I will look at it from a functional perspective, to see how healthy you are. Once you are out of the range listed on a test it's too late and your doctor may start talking to you about medication, but this new perspective raises the caution flag to stop you from reaching that point. In other words, would you rather wait until you are out of the recommended range and told that you have diabetes, or would you like to catch it before you are on that path? It's the difference between wanting to know that you are healthy, vs wanting to know if you are sick yet.

Here's what you get:
  • A form that helps me assess where your trouble areas may be in your physiology-metabolically what is going on in your body.
  • A requisition form to get blood work done from a local Lab Corp facility
  • A complete analysis from a nutritional perspective, with a report of your results, as well as a 1 hour consult to go through every result marker, step by step.
  • Recommendations for continuing on the path of good health.

28-Day Detox:

We live in a toxic world. This program is for those committed to cleaning up their diets and supporting their liver over a 4 week time period. Liver support nutrients are used, and many common food allergens are eliminated. The end result is increased energy, weight loss, better sleep and a reduction in aches and pains. Who wouldn't want that?!
